Comment bien éclairer sa salle à manger ?

How to properly light your dining room?

This living room is most often very close to the living room and therefore within sight of everyone, even people who are not going to come for lunch or dinner. The goal and essential function of this place is to be able to eat your meals and see what you have on your plate without being dazzled.

Thus, the use of a dimmer is very useful depending on the time of day, the season and the desired atmosphere: festive, intimate, subdued, very bright.

To create a warm and friendly atmosphere during meals with friends or family, the choice of lighting is a determining element.
If it is simply reduced to a single lamp above the dining table, the entire ambiance of the room becomes sinister.

To properly illuminate the table, the ideal is lighting with a color temperature that is neither too warm nor too cold, therefore located between 2500 and 3500 kelvins (units of measurement of temperature) and a good CRI (color rendering index), so as not to distort the color of the light sources.

How can you achieve perfect lighting?

First of all, the first thing to do is to choose a light fixture suitable for the table which remains the central element. Indeed, this dining room lighting must fit the shape and size of the table and not the dimensions of the room. For a long rectangular table of 2m, you must choose a lighting fixture that matches the length of the table. For a square table measuring 1 m by 1 m, opt for a more modest lamp. Finally, for an oval table, choose a lighting fixture with good amplitude.

Then, direct lighting, homogeneous and cleverly distributed over the entire table, must also take into consideration essential elements such as the ceiling height, if it is equipped with moldings or cornices to highlight and therefore, in this case, opt for a light that shines upwards.

It should also be taken into account that a single lamp above the table is insufficient, especially if the room is spacious.

What type of lamp to choose?

Many and multiple solutions are possible, depending on the size of the room, the furniture that is placed, the style of decoration and of course one's own tastes.

A chandelier , a suspension or one ceiling light are particularly suitable and have the advantage of being compact.

Of the wall lights , with indirect lighting, which will diffuse light upwards are also recommended.

Of the table lamps to finalize a decoration on a chest of drawers, a console or a server or to highlight a beautiful element, a sculpture, a painting or an object.

You can also opt for small lamps placed in the center of the table, in order to decorate it and filter the light.

A designer floor lamp also finds its place because it can be moved easily, depending on needs, desires or the time of day.
